The project registers more than 1,000 Oases across the borders of 11 national states, geo-referencing them on an interactive map that is available online. For the first time, the constellation of Oases, that for centuries had the task of mitigating the climate – an historic green embankment that crosses the two great deserts – has been identified.
The relative geographical data has been processed by Gismap, in GIS, Remote Sensing and DBMS Open Source, in collaboration with experts of the scientific institutions of the respective countries.

The project , which began at the end of 2016, consists in complex research and archiving in order to obtain a hypertext databank that is accessible from the website: www.laboasis.org. On the website, it is possible to trace information concerning “field” activities that have been funded and undertaken by the Cooperation development projects, including cases that date up to 30 years ago.
Scientific data devoted to the Saharan and Arabian Oases produced by scholars from International universities will also be made available.

The aim of the project is to share information and scientific knowledge. The first phase consists in the creation of the website: www.laboasis.org, that offers rich editorial content and a wide selection of images. The goal is to trigger a special Oasis effect: to germinate new awareness, and promote knowledge of the traditional, Saharan and Arabian, Oases as well as their historical, cultural and landscape heritage, to indicate their value and favor their protection.
